A big sea turtle was found stranded at capo Rosello near Porto Empedocle, Sicily. It’s an exceptional event because it’s very difficult to see, in the Mediterranean sea, this species which prefers the ocean. When dermochelys coriacea testudo was born it was 5,5 cm long; adults can be 2 metres long and more and weigh about 600 kilograms. The shell is smooth and is covered by leather skin; it’s black or brown with white stains. It’s a fast and powerful swimmer; it deposits, at night, at the beginning of summer, between 50 and 150 eggs. Don’t worry! The turtle is fine, just a little wound on its head. Some volunteers are taking care of the turtle and after healing the animal, this will be returned to the sea.
