150 years of the Italian unity


On 17th of March, Italy celebrates the sesquicentennial of its national unity and, since March, in the foremost cities of Italy events and exhibitions are in pruogram to honour it and to "reflect on the process of unification and construction of Italian identity. "Rome, March 14th – the capital city dyes of green, white and red in the night between the 16th and the 17th of March for all day and night. Concerts, bands, theater, readings, street entertainment, light shows, screenings, lectures, fireworks under the stars. And then, in daylight, openings and reopenings of cultural spaces and public areas. All the authorities involved, including the mayor, Gianni Alemanno, the Minister of Defense Ignazio La Russa and the Rome Culture Councillor Dino Gasperini, will attend to the celebrations.On March 17th there will be the climax of the anniversary: on the same day in 1861, the House and Senate of the Kingdom of Sardinia passed the law that gave life to the unitary state. King Vittorio Emanuele II took the title of King of Italy and the new nation arised on the ashes of seven different states.Events and exhibitions will take place also in other important cities. In Turin, the President of republic Giorgio Napolitano will inaugurate the events organized by “Esperienza Italia” in Piedmont. A packed calendar of exhibitions, events, shows, concerts, conferences, sporting events will characterize all the festivity. Lots of interesting exibithions will be held. Fashion in Italy is one of them. The exhibition tells the story of fashion in Italy by the Unit to the present day, with a final look to the future. The main core of the exhibition will consist of dresses in the collection of theatrical Sartoria Tirelli and those achieved by the major contemporary Italian designers. The artistic director of the exhibition is entrusted to the costume designer Gabriella Pescucci, Academy Award winner in 1994, and the journalist Franca Sozzani, since 1988 director of Vogue Italy.
